I joined Saturday Skool after recognizing that as a white woman from the midwest, I had spent over 40 years being a part of white culture in ways I didn't even realize, and in ways that were damaging to every other culture in America. I had biases I didn't recognize, and knew a history that was washed in partial truths from that same white culture. It had been easy for me to see the gender bias that was present in corporate America, why hadn't I also recognized the many tiny ways I was inflicting pain on black, indigenous and people of color? From that place, a place of some confusion and shame, I joined Myisha's Saturday Skool. Myisha's heart-based work both challenged and encouraged me to lean into the discomfort. I gained an appreciation for the tax that shame and guilt charge, the power of forgiveness and the cycle that heals and propels me to keep moving toward an active anti-racist life. Myisha has helped me work on myself in deep and strengthening ways - not just on unconscious bias - but truly to surface, recognize and move through my past and present to reshape my relationship with myself.
